Market Bosworth 22 - 40 Wellingborough Wellingborough recorded their first away win of the season on Saturday and resembled anything but a bottom of the table side as they dismissed Market Bosworth 22-40. Things didn't start well for Boro when a mix-up in the back line saw the home run through a non-existent defence and after only two minutes, Boro were 7-0 down and looking like their run of poor form was to continue however, in an almost immediate reply, a good take in the line-out gave the backs some room and full back John Schoeman broke the line to make sixty metres before passing to Keir Davidson who linked with Andrew Fordham to cross. With the wind at their backs Boro maintained pressure on their hosts and following quick ruck ball, lock Nick Murphy, lurking in the back line passed to Captain Peter Vickers who exchanged quick passes with centre Craig Hughes who popped to Schoeman at pace who crossed out wide; Vickers now with the measure of the wind slotted the conversion from the touchline. Boro didn't rest there and with Captain Vickers speeding the supply of ball to the back line, the team played some football reminiscent of their performances last season. Quick hands from Vickers released centre Steven Gall from his own 22. Gall then put the hammer down and out-paced the defence to run the length and score, Vickers adding the extra two. Now on a roll winger Jason Minnie was keen to get in on the action but when stopped just inches from the line, lock Murphy was on hand to pick up and dot down for the score with Vickers again, adding the conversion. The final act of the half saw winger Ben Grundy benefit from a well worked overlap to cross out wide and sprinting under the posts, made the conversion easy for Vickers to all but kill the game off at the break with Boro 7-33 to the good. The second half didn't go all Boro's way though and on 12 minutes, a case of mistaken identity saw Vickers sent to the sin-bin for killing the ball. Bosworth made the extra man tell and from close range, their No 8 was bundled over to bring the score back to 12-33. Refusing to lie down however, Boro took the battle on up front and hooker Davidson, who was outstanding in the loose all day took a pass from Hughes to cross from short range. Bosworth then managed something of a recovery and when winger Grundy was sin-binned for a clumsy tackle, they took the opportunity to run in two tries in the last ten minutes in the space which Boro had failed to cover to bring the final score to 22-40. The return of Vickers from injury has changed the entire look of the team; scrum half Jim Lovett put in his best performance of the season and No 8 Kyle Danns was impressive in all areas of the game. |
