Mansfield 58 - 19 Wellingborough

Wellingborough put in a disappointing performance away at Mansfield as they went down 58-19.

The home side started stronger and were soon in front by 12 points in as many minutes.  Things took a turn for the worst as Keir Davidson was forced to leave the field with an injury and having no replacement hooker, prop Adam Parker had to fill the position for the first time in his career and as a result the set pieces struggled for the rest of the afternoon.

Wellingborough hit back with a try from number 8 Kyle Danns after a quickly taken penalty, but any sign of a comeback was short lived as the home side scored more tries.  With half time approaching, Boro pulled back another try through full back John Schoeman after good work by centre Steven Gall. Pete Vickers added the extras.

The second half didn’t get any better and Mansfield extended their lead with another couple of tries as Wellingborough slipped off numerous tackles.  Bobby Dhillon managed to cross again for the visitors with Vickers adding the 2 points.

With Mansfield scoring more tries towards the end Wellingborough were soundly beaten by a better and more determined side.

Captain Pete Vickers said after the game “I am very disappointed with the performance today.  We didn’t train well this week with poor commitment form certain players.  It’s very frustrating having played so well last week and beaten a team in second place to have 50 points put on us this week.  Mansfield were deserving winners.  In 2 weeks we have Leighton Buzzard and we will be training extremely hard to put things right.”
