Lutterworth Ladies - Sunday 11th October 2015

Another Great Win for the Wellingborough Ladies

The Wellingborough Ladies travelled to Lutterworth this week, for what was always going to be a very physical game. The home side kicked off and quickly showed their intent, with good line speed, big hits and competitive rucking. The away side rose to the challenge though, matching the physicality of their opposition and for a good length of the first half, it looked like it would be a close game.

The great kicking game of the Lutterworth side was also relatively unfamiliar to the away team, but fullback, Nikita Mcguigan’s positioning, hands and running dealt with it well, leaving the Lutterworth backs disappointed that they couldn’t break through the defence that way. Strong lineouts from the Wellingborough Pack and great kicking from fly half, Sadie Mansell, prevented their kicks for territory from gaining the home side any points.

Consistent strong running from the Wellingborough backs eventually proved too much for the Lutterworth defence and centre, Chloe Allcorn broke through to score her first try. Wellingborough seemed to raise their game after the first score, and with the penalty count high for the home side, and low for the away, Wellingborough’s recent lack of discipline and high penalty count seemed like a distant memory. Repeated offside infringements at the penalty earned the home team’s captain a stint in the bin and Wellingborough capitalised on this. Hard work from the forwards provided the platform and the space for centre, Chloe Allcorn to power through for her second try of the game and vice captain, Alice Smith added another to the total shortly after.

With the physicality still high from both teams, the first half ended sadly, however, with Wellingborough losing flanker, Melissa Dee, to a broken leg. Both teams wish her the speediest of recoveries.

After moving pitches for the second half, Wellingborough raised their game again and increased their lead even further. Strong running from both forwards and backs and incredible offloads all round, enabled centre, Chloe Allcorn, to score 2 more, raising her try total to five before the end of the match. Massive forward contests inside the Lutterworth 22, with lots of hotly contested lineouts and scrums, and plenty of mauling too, led to an opportunity for centre and ex-flanker, Alice Smith to drive over the line for the final score of the game. Alice Smith added two conversions to the Wellingborough points total throughout the match.

The team attitude of the Wellingborough Ladies was incredible and they thoroughly enjoyed the match, are ecstatic with the win and are looking forward to building on it to achieve even more through the course of the rest of the season.
