Boro can only draw at Huntingdon
Week 5 and a trip to Huntingdon
This week saw Boro travel to Huntingdon looking for the win. However, this week saw quite a number of changes to the team, in the front row Matt Ellson made a welcome return and Ewan Pattison started his first game of the season. Changes to the second row saw John Cartwright make his first start alongside returnee Andy Fordham and in the back row Joel Smith started at 6. In the backs Tom Mair moved to the 10 shirt with Tom Bryan and Luke Gardiner making their first starts of the season at 13 and 15. On the bench Will Bigley, Paul Dennis and Brendon Leslie made their first team league debuts.
(Apologies for the shortness of report, was trying to entertain my children as well as making some notes!!!)
From the kick off Boro started to put together some phases of pay with forwards and backs offloading to each other and it took some strong defence from Huntingdon to keep Boro out. I think I even saw Kieran Checkley strip an opposition player of the ball.......Midway through the first half Boro opened the scoring with a well worked try, Boro kept the ball alive with Matt Ellson being prominent with ball in hand, a quick offload to Chris Shipman saw the captain then in turn release Tom Bryan into space, he kicked the ball forwards and Kieran Checkley put on the after burners to win the race to the ball for the opening score which was converted by Tom Mair (Hunts 0v7 Boro).
Huntingdon answered straight back with a penalty from the kick off (Hunts 3v7 Boro), and although Boro kept trying to keep the ball alive it was Huntingdon who scored a try of their own out wide in the left hand corner (Hunts 10v7 Boro). With half time approaching Joel Smith was shown a yellow card.

Huntingdon 10 v 7 Wellingborough
The second half kicked off in a similar fashion to the first with Boro pushing the ball wide and going through the phases, some strong Huntingdon defence stopped Boro from scoring. It was a mistake from Boro which saw Huntingdon score next, a number if missed tackles allowed Huntingdon to make inroads into the Boro 22 before a try was scored in the corner (Hunts 15v7 Boro). Boro soon answered back with a score of their own, an attack from Boro was rewarded with a penalty which Tom Mair slotted (Hunts 15v10 Boro).
Boro kept pushing for the next score and after another a penalty was awarded a Huntingdon player was sent to the bin. Some strong defence was keeping Boro out and it took a half break from Tom Bryan to take Boro within inches of the Huntingdon try line, Connor Riley spotted the gap and darted over for the equalising score (Hunts 15v15 Boro). Boro still had one final chance to win the game but the penalty from wide out on the right bounced off the crossbar.

Huntingdon 15 v 15 Wellingborough
A draw which under the circumstances was commendable, 9 changes to the team were made and a number of players stepped up from the As this week. However, there was the feeling after that we had a number of chances to win the game which weren't taken. Anyway there is no game for the 1s next Sat but other teams are available to watch such as the Vets!
