Boro stumble at Ilkeston
Rain, rain go away come again another day
Apologies this week, your correspondent was very cold and very wet so made no notes other than when points were scored.
This week Boro travelled to Ilkeston in need of a victory to get the show back on the road, there were a couple of changes with Craig Marshall coming into the back row, Ben Taylor starting at 9 for the first time this season, on the bench Rob Owen returned along with Tom Mair. On to the game.....
The first half saw Boro camped in the Ilkeston half for long periods but mistakes at crucial times let down any progress made. The end of the half saw Chris Shipman sent to the bin and a penalty scored by Ilkeston to give them a 3 nil half time lead.
The second half kicked off and an early mistake in the defensive line saw Ilkeston score a try, this was quickly followed by another try as Boro struggled to get a foothold on the game. Ilkeston did a good job of keeping the ball and as Boro tried to wrestle back possession another offence at a ruck saw Chris Shipman awarded his second yellow card and his marching orders.
Ilkeston 17v0 Wellingborough
A tough week for the teams saw Boro huff and puff but not get over the line. This was a much improved performance from the previous week and although this was the third game lost on the bounce there were a lot of positives which can be built on in training ready for the next game.
(next week's report should be longer if weather conditions permit!)
