Great effort from a team missing several key players
Tough morning sees us go down to an excellent Bugbrooke team
We haven't experienced 4 matches as tough as these for a few years. Thanks to Bugbrooke and congratulations go to them for being the best side that we have faced this year. I expected a tough morning as we were quite severely under strength, and although we were the losing side I am very proud of the way we competed. We had one team to their two, which meant that we had to keep going without rest for four back to back matches. It's a testament to our stamina and desire to play the game.
Bugbrooke were very quick to the tackle and the breakdown and were often driving us backwards whilst we had the ball in hand. It's very hard to attack when there was often only one support player when the tackle was made. Bugbrooke used defence as a mode of attack, and did so to great effect. They simply got into the ball carrier hard and fast, and forced us into more handling errors than we would normally make. In attack they ran straight, strong, and directly at us.
If this sounds familiar, it is because we have consistently repeated mantras such as "run straight and get to the tackle early. Today we saw what happens when a team gets this right.
We have some work to do guys, but we can and will raise our game, because we certainly have the players to do that.
Once again, well done to all of the lads today who competed hard. I'm sure this would have been among Bugbrookes toughest fixtures this season. Bring on the re match when we will be stronger.
