Old Scouts win in U9
Third for Wellingborough at our own festival.
Some terrific rugby this morning. Well done to Old Scouts on winning the tournament. On the day they were the best side here and were extremely well organised and were able to use the width of the oversized (under 11) pitch better than any one else
Wellingborough took 2 convincing wins, a draw with Towcester, and a loss to Old Scouts.
The wins were against S&L and Rushden & Higham. They were convincing wins and we were always in control using our defence to shut them out of the game.
I was really pleased to have earned a draw against Towcester. The reason for this was that, earlier in the season, we lost to Towcester and were out muscled by them on the pitch. Today, we were more than a physical match for them and showed that we have grown as a team and our game has evolved such that we continue to be among the top Under 9's teams in the local area.
Old Scouts, like any of the few teams that have beaten us this year, have shown us what we need to do to continue our evolution. We always learn more in defeat and we use it grow, and be a better team.
We finished third and all of our players should be really proud of themselves for the level of rugby that they are playing. We should remember that teams like Old Scouts have over 30 players in their U9 set up and therefore have the luxury of selecting a large squad of festival grade players. We should also remember that we were playing on pitches far larger than we are used to, and if we had the luxury of fresh legs (i.e. a larger festival squad) we would have had more in the tank as the tournament went on.
Just remember, these are some of the areas finest teams, and you are all playing at the highest level for your age grade.
One more festival next week after which the season is over and we can all rest for a bit, after which we can get together in the new season and work on the things that we have learnt today.
Well done lads!
