Milton Keynes provide tough fixture.
Milton Keynes give us a very useful fixture.
A big thank you first off to Milton Keynes for accommodating a last minute change of venue. It was a windy but dry morning here at Cut Throat Lane and once again there was some fine rugby on display.
Milton Keynes had a squad of two teams, which meant that we could have both our Saxby's and Knight's teams playing simultaneously. This marked the first of many matches to come for our newly formed Knight's team, so well done to them.
SAXBY'S (Boris Pateman, Dylan Black, Jacob Mackenzie-Watson, Leo Turrell, Harry Dolan, Bobby Phillips, Darrell Gilkes)
Saxby's 19 vs Milton Keynes 9
There were many fine moments over the three matches that were played. Some of our players put in some very good all round performances and this was matched by some excellent work from their opposite numbers. The three matches were played in good spirit and were in truth tighter than the scores suggest.
Tagging was excellent in phases, every player scored and was fully involved in a satisfying fixture. Well done Saxby's and well done Milton Keynes.
Things to work on at next week's training will be;
1. Arrowhead restart formation.
2. Straight running lines.
3. Keeping the defensive positions intact from the restart (instead of bunching).
A gloriously mild autumn morning saw Wellingborough RFC host Milton Keynes RFC at cut throat lane. The under 8s
Knights took on a Milton keynes side of mixed ability. The first match was a little one sided and ended with a convincing win for MK, despite some superb supportive and attacking rugby played by the Knights. The second match, the boys seemed to gel more and were ahead at half time, again the team demonstrated some good running and excellent supportive play. The second half, the boys started to feel the intensity and some lacklustre defending led to the game finishing a draw at 6 all. Match three, and the team showed determination and spirit again with some spells of really entertaining rugby, the match finished 2 - 7 to MK.The boys showed real flair and skill during periods, and it was good to see that the training drills we have been running are paying off. We felt that the boys showed a big improvement from the matches played earlier in the season, and are on course to become a successful team.
