1st XV Report - Sat 3rd November v BBOB Print E-mail

BBOB 0 - 65 Wellingborough

Wellingborough played 80 mins of fast attacking rugby that completely stunned their opponents, scoring nine tries in the process.  They had one try disallowed and spurned several other chances but they can feel well satisfied with this away win.

Steven Gall opened the scoring after centre Craig Hughes created space following a scrum taken against the head.  Pete Vickers added the conversion before increasing 'Boros lead with two penalties.  'Boros next score was the try of the match. No 8 Andy Fordham gathered the restart and found prop Kelvin Todd in support. After making twenty metres, Todd drew the last defender before slipping the ball to skipper Dudley Cross who left Vickers with an easy conversion.  Ben Heffernan scored next after he gathered a chip through from BBOB and sprinted in from the half way line, Vickers again adding the extras.  'Boros last try of the half was scored by their present try scoring machine Dom Smart, with Vickers this time failing to add the extras.

With the score at 32 - 0 at half time the game was all but over except 'Boro had other ideas.  They scored a try from Smart after five minutes of the second half converted by Vickers to increase their lead.  Scrum half James Lovett was getting good quality ball all afternoon allowing him to set the three quarter line in motion and it was no surprise when Pete Vickers increased their lead with an unconverted try before Dom Smart completed another hat trick when running in 'Boros seventh try.  Vickers again converted.  There were two more tries, the first from replacement Karl McAndrew and the last from Ben Heffernan, both converted by Vickers leaving him with twenty five points in the match.

A good, solid display from Wellingborough allows them to keep top spot in the league and the all round improvement must be pleasing for the new coaches.

Croyland Megastore man of the match: James Lovett
