Bedford Junior Blues arrived at Cut Throat Lane with nearly a full squad of U18's for this fixture, that was a few more than Boro had! After an exitable opening the game formed a pattern of Bedford attacking and Wellingborough defending valiantly. Boro kept Bedford at bay for around 10 minutes but by 20 mins in it was 12-0 and with no real attacking platform it was going to be a long day. Boro were rocked after some particularly good defence went unrewarded after a knock on at the line out was missed and Bedford pounced to score beneath the posts.
The second half followed a similar pattern but as Bedford made changes Boro had longer periods with the ball but unfortunately could not break through a resolute defence. As tiredness crept in tackles lost their power and Bedford ran in a couple of late tries to make the final score 48-0
Bedford will clearly be challenging for trophies this year while Boro find themselves in a similar position that Bedford were in last year with a young squad. Boro's man of the match was simply a two horse race between Ben Richardson who tackled all day, and the winner of the first MuMu Man of the Match in conjunction with MuMu Burgers from MuMu at Wellingborough.... was Jake Samwell, Jake was thrown in the deep end at scrum half after an early injury and played very well.
